AdaptiveMobile Security, the world leader in cyber telecoms security, following their webinar presentation, “5G networks: How to secure the future”, launched a white paper report entitled ‘Securing the Path from 4G to 5G’. Committed to the ongoing security of mobile network operators, nation states and their regulators, AdaptiveMobile Security shared their intelligence on the journey to secure 5G core networks. This white paper is the first of its kind detailing the migration scenarios that mobile operators could be faced with when deploying 5G networks.
Dr. Silke Holtmanns, Head of 5G Research at AdaptiveMobile Security explains “5G enables a large range of service and use cases. It offers new levels of bandwidth, reliability, round trip times and integration of verticals. With the huge increase of more sensitive and valuable data in the 5G core network, there is also an increase in the interest of fraudsters, hackers and nation states in getting access to this data or other attacks impacting subscribers and networks. Attackers already have a toolbox of attacks available for 2G, 3G and 4G networks, for them a new generation of mobile technology is simply a new technology, attackers will probe different networks for a suitable attack path to their target.”
AdaptiveMobile Security details in this newly released whitepaper the typical migration and interworking scenarios that 4G Mobile Operators will encounter when they migrate to a 5G core network, and outline how to protect them, as well as how to integrate the latest threat intelligence into their protection strategy. Discussing various interworking scenarios for 4G nodes with the 5G Service Based Architecture (SBA).
Brian Collins, CEO, echoed this sentiment, “If Carriers, Governments and Regulators do not learn from the security mistakes in 3G and 4G, then 5G will fail to provide the confidence necessary for all sections of the marketplace to support its uptake. We have a short window of opportunity to get things right with 5G to allow such key services such as real authentication, and network slicing become reality, services which are critical to the financial success of rolling out billion-dollar networks and in turn drive new market sectors. Therefore, it is essential for all stakeholders (carriers, vendors, Regulators, Governments, security agencies etc.) to ensure proper security conventions are applied from the very start and not added as an afterthought as we witnessed in the case of 3G/4G. There is still time for all involved in the telecom industry to take the right path on the journey to migration from 3G/4G and ensure the 5G networks of the future are secure from the outset.”
AdaptiveMobile Security will continue to focus on providing market leading security products and services that protect subscribers and networks from the next generation of mobile security threats and attacks.
