Enghouse Networks Emergency Warning System Completes Successful Live Test in Belgium

Markham, Ontario – (September 12th, 2017) Enghouse is pleased to announce that its Network Emergency Warning System (NEWS) solution successfully participated in live testing during the Belgian government’s first major test of their multi-channel emergency warning system, BE-Alert, at the recent Rock Werchter festival in Belgium.

Operational since 2014, BE-Alert enables the mass broadcast of alerts via voice calls and email during emergencies. The latest enhancement takes advantage of the high penetration of mobile devices and universal access to SMS, and adds mobile messaging to existing broadcast channels utilizing the mobile networks of all three Belgian operators.

Enghouse NEWS leverages Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology integrated with Enghouse Messaging solutions to geographically identify and target SMS alerts to subscribers located in disaster areas including inbound roamers. Alert message delivery confirmations are available for each alert message sent. The Rock Werchter BE-Alert test confirmed delivery of 40,000 SMS alerts. While geo-targeted SMS was specified as BE-Alert’s mobile alerts, Enghouse NEWS also supports solutions based on Cell-Broadcast.
