▶ KT has been awarded ‘Most Significant Development of a Commercial LTE network’ at ‘LTE Awards’ twice for the first time in the world

▶ KT’s major contribution to further developing LTE network through advanced commercial technologies such as GiGA LTE was highly recognized

▶ LTE radio communication and eMBMS, the core technologies for National Disaster Safety Network, were also lauded

KT’s outstanding LTE technology has been once again recognized as the world’s best on the global stage.

KT(Chairman Hwang Chang-kyu, www.kt.com) announced on June 25 that the company has been awarded ‘Most significant Development of a Commercial LTE network’at LTE Awards 2015, the highlight of LTE World Summit 2015 that took place on June 24 (local time) in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

LTE World Summit 2015, organized byglobal ICT research firm Informa Telecom & Media, is the biggest annual LTE conference, making the 11th anniversary this year. Participants from about 800 IT companies from across the globe gather together to share technology and service trends and seek cooperation.‘The LTE Awards’, taken place during LTE World Summit, are known as the world’s most prestigious LTE-related award to recognize the best company that has achieved the most outstanding results and innovation in the LTE industry worldwide.

In particular, winning the award this time gives KT the honor to have won the Most Significant Development of a Commercial LTE network (Operators only) award twice for the first time in the world, following the award back in 2012. KT has been nominated for 5 out of 9 categories of ‘the LTE Awards 2015’, being recorded as the most-nominated candidate among single operators thanks to its advanced technology.

The award recognized KT for making huge contributions to LTE network development through core technologies including ▲GiGA LTE (heterogeneous networks convergence technology), ▲3CA LTE (3-band carrier aggregation), ▲LTE radio communication ▲GiGA Power Live (LTE-based simultaneous video transmission: eMBMS, evolved Multimedia Broadcast and Multicast Service)

First, KT’s GiGA LTE, which has been commercialized on June 16 for the first time in the world, is a convergence technology of 5G core technologies. The service is able to provide data speeds up to an incredible 1.17Gbps by combining 3CA LTE coverage with localized GiGA WiFi networks. GiGA LTE allows customers to enjoy the GiGA speed with mobile devices through KT GiGA infrastructure, the largest coverage in Korea.

In addition, KT proves by winning the award that its core technologies for National Disaster Safety Network such as LTE radio communication and eMBMS(LTE-based simultaneous video transmission technology) are the most advanced in the world.

IP-based LTE radio communication services (Power Talk 2.0), which is commercialized by KT Powertel, provides a seamless service based on local technology anywhere on small islets and in remote mountain regions in the country on the ground as well as underground using KT’s LTE network.

eMBMS, commercialized in 2013 by KT, is the LTE-based real time video transmission technology for National Disaster Safety Network. KT has built up the foundation to provide seamless communication during disaster situations with satellite LTE and microwave established on Baengnyeong Island and Dokdo Island.

Meanwhile, During LTE World Summit 2015, Park Jae-yoon, director of technology support dept. of KT, delivered a keynote speech, saying that KT will provide better services by proactively developing customer-centered innovative technology. “KT will continuously play a leading role in LTE technology development as well as 5G commercialization,”said Park.
