Mobile network operators in Europe and Asia to get greater Reach thanks to HGC Hutch-IPX and Telenor IPX interconnection

Hong Kong / Chicago – Hutchison Global Communications Limited (HGC), the fixed-line arm of Hutchison Telecommunications Hong Kong Holdings Limited (HTHKH. Stock code: 215), and global mobile operator Telenor today announced a peering agreement to interconnct their IPX networks.

End-users to enjoy high-quality and seamless roaming
HGC and Telenor signed an IPX-peering agreement on 16 May at International Telecoms Week (ITW) 2017 in Chicago, with the aim of enabling mobile network operators (MNOs) and carriers served by the two companies to exchange IP traffic in a secure and high-quality manner.

Services will be extended to a greater population of mobile end users, who will be able to roam seamlessly across IPX platforms run by HGC and Telenor, granting extended coverage along with an enhanced voice and mobile data experience.

Furthermore, the collaboration will enable HGC and Telenor to deliver greater reach to MNOs via their IPX networks in Asia and Europe. Carriers, multinational corporations and consumer customers served by the two companies will henceforth enjoy seamless integrated service in terms of signaling and data roaming, as well as Voice-over-IPX (VoIPX) and Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) roaming, plus HD video calling and conferencing.

Andrew Kwok, President of International and Carrier Business at HTHKH, said: “European MNOs are facing a surge in traffic volume after the ‘Roam like at Home’ initiative goes live in June, when EU-based travellers will no longer have to pay roaming tariffs anywhere in the EU.”

He added: “HGC’s peering arrangement with Telenor is an enormous first stride in enabling MNOs served by us to provide service in a more cost-effective way, while making sufficient capacity available, so end users benefit from high-quality and seamless roaming. Hutch IPX also allows exchange of traffic made up of content and applications, and ensures Application-to-Person (A2P) messages reach mobile users.”

Wansit Jeremy Saiyawan, Chief Sales Officer of Telenor’s Global Wholesale unit, said: “This IPX-peering agreement builds on the strong commitment of partnership between Telenor and Hutchison Global Communications to ensure a continual evolution into the digital era. Together, we deliver end-to-end visibility on LTE services, and as such, provide the reliability that end users demand today.”
