Sparkle is the first European Service Provider to receive MEF 100G Carrier Ethernet 2.0 Certification For E-Line (EPL & EVPL) Services

Sparkle is also the first service provider worldwide to become MEF 100G CE 2.0 certified for E-Line Services on a submarine cable system

Rome, February 21, 2017

Sparkle, the International Services arm of TIM Group and among top 10 global operators, has received MEF 100G CE 2.0 Certification for E-Line (EPL & EVPL) services. Testing and certification were carried out by Iometrix, MEF’s official test lab, and have been performed on Sparkle’s Mediterranean and Balkan Network, selected after an accurate technical review of candidate services to be certified.

Sparkle’s Mediterranean & Balkan Network is a complex optical communication system mostly based on Infinera DTN-X DWDM platform, with an overall span of 9,500 km including more than 6,500 km of fully owned submarine optical cables. The geographical coverage of the DWDM system involves more than 20 cities, distributed over six different markets, including Italy, Greece, Turkey, Bulgaria, Cyprus and Israel.

Sparkle, Infinera and Iometrix carried out the certification process on a dedicated virtual network established between the Points of Presence located in Catania (Italy) and Athens (Greece), and in three different phases in accordance with MEF’s Certification Program:

– Qualification Phase, for the selection of the appropriate values of service attributes, including performance and bandwidth profiles;

– Configuration Phase, with the set-up of the test plant on the two end-points in accordance with Iometrix requirements;

– Testing Phase, during which Iometrix has performed several remote tests by means of appropriate traffic probes.

“As a driving force within MEF we are extremely proud to have received this additional certification that proves, once more, Sparkle’s commitment in providing customers with best performing advanced connectivity solutions that are optimized to support today’s digital transformation process”, says Alessandro Talotta, Chairman and CEO at Sparkle.

”MEF congratulates Sparkle for demonstrating outstanding industry leadership with MEF 100G CE 2.0 Certification, which represents the gold standard for connectivity performance and forms a critical foundation for future service innovation,” says Nan Chen, President, MEF. “The Sparkle team has set the bar high in the European market with leading-edge certified solutions.”

Through the new MEF 100G CE 2.0 Certification for E-Line services Sparkle enhances even further its Data and Cloud services proposition as the ideal partner for customers demanding intensive bandwidth services, with assured quality and security standards.
