Telecom Italia Sparkle SICILY HUB expands reach by adding MENA Cable Landing Station in Mazara

Mena Cable is now closer to Europe through a rich multi breed market place that includes world leading IX platforms

TI Sparkle, the International Services arm of Telecom Italia Group announces that its latest Next Generation Data Center in Palermo has expanded its reach by including MENA Cable’s landing station in Mazara, Sicily.

Located closer than any other European peering point to North Africa, the Mediterranean and the Middle East, TI Sparkle’s SICILY HUB is served by Seabone, TI Sparkle’s Tier 1-grade Global IP Transit service, while its open and resilient configuration supports carriers and ISPs that want to enhance the redundancy of their networks.

In addition, through DE-CIX’s IX platform, SICILY HUB allows carriers that land their IP backbones in Sicily to directly interconnect with each other and to other providers that have a presence in the facility. These other providers include some of the world’s most well-known and largest content players.

MENA Cable is the 9,500km infrastructure with multi fiber pairs utilizing most advanced optical technologies to satisfy capacity needs to connect the markets of Oman, KSA, India and beyond to Europe passing by Egypt. The cable also includes branching units in the Mediterranean and Red Seas for potential expansions of cable reach to more markets in South Europe and East Africa.

As a result, MENA Cable is now closer to Europe through three diversified routes and is able to provide a relevant improvement of performance and internet experience to its customers who, at the same time, can enjoy a rich ecosystem and market place of multi-breed interconnected players available at SICILY HUB.

“With the expansion of On-Net reach of the Mazara landing station, our new ecosystem and leading IP gravitational center in the middle of the Mediterranean is able to provide a better internet experience to MENA Cable customers who will be able to benefit from a full data center service portfolio at our resilient and diversified Sicily Hub platform”, says Alessandro Talotta, CEO TI Sparkle.

“By hosting TI Sparkle inside MENA cable landing station in Mazara – Sicily, MENA provides its customers an alternative connectivity to the heart of Europe that moved to the middle of the Mediterranean. Having Sicily Hub connected to MENA Cable Landing Station through TIS Sparkle is adding to MENA more flexibility and reachability”, says Kamran Malik, CEO MENA.

TI Sparkle’ Sicily Hub has been designed with the most advanced technologies and follows the most restrictive technical parameters typical of Telecom Italia Group’s Next Generation Data Centers.

Seabone is TI Sparkle’s global Tier 1 IP Transit service providing ISPs, Content Providers and Accelerators with top quality, best performing and most secure access to the Global Internet. Ranking among Top 10 global IP backbones. Seabone has a consolidated leading position in the Americas and in Europe, leveraging a unique presence in Mediterranean, Africa, Middle East and South East Asia.
