Telenor Global Services – the LTE Exchange gateway for the Telenor Group Companies

Oslo – Telenor Global Services (TGS) has launched its LTE Roaming Exchange service to the market, and is the official LTE Exchange gateway for the Telenor Group Companies in their efforts of providing high-quality LTE roaming services to their customers anytime, anywhere.

The LTE Roaming Exchange service is based on the Diameter signaling protocol which is an IP-based Authentication, Authorization and Accounting (AAA) protocol that is used for the LTE networks. The service is a single gateway between all Telenor mobile operations and LTE networks worldwide.

Mobile subscribers acquiring the newest mobile devices are increasing. Their expectations of service quality and availability require more and more bandwidth, indifferent of the users are at home or out roaming. This requirement for more network services and functions is driving the need of the mobile service providers to move to Diameter to efficiently handle the associated signalling traffic.

Via a single connection through Telenor Global IPX network to the LTE Roaming Exchange, mobile service providers can quickly and easily deliver global LTE Roaming for their subscribers. As an extension to the LTE Roaming solution, this high quality IPX network is providing the foundation for mobile service providers to efficiently launch any new applications and services in order to meet the customer’s demands for increased user experience whilst they are travelling.

“For mobile subscribers, this means that they will have a seamless LTE roaming experience – which enables them to enjoy the same high levels of LTE speed and reliability abroad as at home. We are proud of being in the midst of helping people to get the full benefit of being connected”, says Bjørn Iversen, CEO of Telenor Global Services.

Rolv-Erik Spilling, EVP and Head of Telenor Digital, says: «We are happy to have TGS as our LTE Gateway for the Telenor Group. Their ability to deliver a Next generation Network with QoS and guaranteed security is in line with Group’s ambition when it comes to having network quality as a lever for differentiation. New data demands result in new requirements for networks. Their Telenor Global IPX network is a future proof network which at the same time is flexible, robust, high-performing and efficient. By having TGS as our LTE gateway Telenor continues to utilize network sharing to improve quality positions in our markets. Our ambition is to deliver what customers truly value and we are happy to offer our roaming subscribers high quality voice and data services when they travel abroad.”

Per now TGS is ready for commercial traffic with Telenor Norway and four peering partners, as the first customers connected to the LTE network.  Further Telenor mobile operations will be connected consecutively well in time before they launch their LTE roaming services. External LTE network operators worldwide will be connected either directly to the LTE Roaming Exchange, or via other signaling hubs.

Global reach is secured by connecting the LTE roaming Exchange to all major LTE signaling hubs globally. Four major hubs are connected successfully already, and the remaining major hubs will be connected in short time.
