Pakistan | Regenerative agriculture

The problem

In Pakistan, agriculture stands as the largest consumer of water, accounting for over 90% of total water usage. Currently, the country experiences water availability below the scarcity threshold of 1000 cubic meters per person. The impact of climate change in the region has the potential to further exacerbate the situation.

Improper use of fertilising technology negatively impacts soil health, ecosystem services, and agricultural productivity. This is manifested through altered pH levels, which increases pests, acidification, soil crust formation. It also reduces soil organic carbon, useful organisms, plant growth, yield, and increases greenhouse gas emissions.

In Pakistan, a significant number of the farmers continue practicing traditional methods of farming. This reliance on these approaches can hamper the ability of farmers to achieve their maximum potential yield. Additionally, the absence of data-driven insights leads to the overuse of resources by farmers.

The company

Crop2x utilises Internet of Things (IoT) sensors and satellite imagery to provide farmers in Pakistan with real-time data and actionable insights, optimising crop productivity through its mobile application and providing weekly insights.

Project description

This project revolutionises farming in Pakistan by providing farmers with real-time information on crop conditions, water levels, nutrient levels, fertilizer needs, yield predictions, and crop classification through mobile and web-based applications.
It empowers farmers to make informed data-driven decisions and implement precise farming practices tailored to their soil and crop requirements. This helps to increase productivity and create a more sustainable agriculture system.
