The problem

The mangrove region in Sundarbans, West Bengal, India, is one of the most ecologically vulnerable areas in terms of the impacts of climate change and land erosion. Out of the 14 global tropical cyclones associated with the highest fatalities in recorded history, nine have occurred in the Bay of Bengal. This situation puts small and marginal farmers in the region at risk of losing their livelihoods due to these challenges.

The company

InQube is a company that operates a business-to-business (B2B) software as a service technology (SaaS) platform to enhance food security, promote sustainable farming, and establish connections between farmers and stakeholders in the agriculture value chain.

Project description

GSMA funding will establish GreenQube, a SaaS platform with Internet of Things (IoT) sensors and digital payment capabilities. The platform will digitally integrate stakeholders through the last-mile farm aggregator, connecting farmers and providing advisory services. GreenQube will address challenges from evolving pest and disease patterns, promoting the transition to modern sustainable farming practices. It will support regenerative farming methods like composting, crop diversity, and organic farming.

Furthermore, the platform will contribute to a carbon offset financing project for mangrove reforestation with digital tracking, enhancing financial support for farmers by 2027.
