In the developing world a woman’s risk of maternal death is 1 in 31, compared to 1 in 4300 in the developed world. The developing world also has the highest under-five child mortality rates, with 82% of the 6.9 million under-five deaths in 2011 being concentrated in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. While progress has been made and maternal and child deaths have been decreasing in the developing world, the situation is still worrying.

Mobile technology has significant potential to help achieve the Millennium Development goals related to maternal and child health, however despite the proliferation of mHealth services, the latent potential is not being fully realised and the impact on health systems is limited.

Using existing success stories, this free webinar will explore four key drivers of successful and impactful mHealth services:

  • Reducing fragmentation
  • Delivering scalability
  • Replication across other disease portfolios and countries
  • Alignment of the value proposition for health and mobile

Presenters include:

  • Mojca Cargo, mHealth Programme Coordinator, GSMA Mobile for Development
  • Judy Njogu, Product Manager for eHealth & eLearning, Safaricom
  • Joanne Stevens, consultant to Mobile Alliance for Maternal Action (MAMA) South Africa, MAMA South Africa
  • George Held, VP of Commerce, Etisalat
  • Alice Fabiano, Senior Program Officer and Advisor, Johnson & Johnson
