Many women at the base of the pyramid have something in common: they buy their food and groceries from a small corner shop. The majority of these micro-enterprises in Latin America are run by savvy businesswomen; however often their efficiency is limited due to lack of access to education. TiendaTek is a smartphone application which uses an Android smart phone and a barcode reader to enable a shopkeeper to keep track of all the transactions in her shop and identify the areas for improvement. She can also receive education, connect to her suppliers and sell virtual goods, such as mobile pre-paid airtime and micro-insurance. In turn, she will generate more income from her shop and save time for her family or other pursuits.

Currently the public can vote for the Vodafone Mobile Clicks finalists so if you think TiendaTek ould be a worthy winner of this latest challenge vote for them today here – voting closes 12 September.
