Mobile Asia Expo through Google Glass

Basketball acrobats, fashion runways, a Chinese pop sensation and George, a connected canine crowd pleaser. These were some of the highlights at this year’s Mobile Asia Expo (MAE) and were all captured using Google Glass.

GSMA Marketing Manager Kelly Hoang used the wearable device during the week to go behind the scenes and record an up close and personal encounter at one of the biggest technology events in Asia.

The use of Google Glass offered a more intimate perspective of the event and also gave greater insights into one of the biggest trends in mobile: wearable technology. Acting as a hands-free smartphone with an optical head-mounted display, Google Glass is at the leading edge of the wearable technology trend, paving the way for many different forms of integrated devices.

Here’s a sneak peak of what Kelly saw, heard and experienced – all through the lens of one Google Glass…

A connected canine

At the MAE preview press conference on Monday, nine-month old George charmed attendees while modelling a GPS tracker on his collar. The collar demonstrated how technology is not only connecting people and devices, but pets too.

Crazy Dunkers

Down at Connected City, the Crazy Dunkers drew large cheering crowds at every show over the three days of MAE. The Dunkers performed a range of acrobats including mid-air flips and spins while wearing the latest generation of smart-sensing sportswear. The clothing monitored and displayed their performance statistics in real time for the audience to see.

Jane Zhang

Chinese pop star, Jane Zhang, a technology and social media enthusiast with more than 27 million Weibo followers, performed live in front of screaming fans. She also spoke about how her career and success have been influenced by social media.

The GSMA 360Fashion & Tech Runway Show

Hundreds of attendees flocked to Showcase Stage to see over 50 innovative examples of how fashion and technology are merging together. The futuristic and creative display incorporated a range of sports trackers, brain visualization headbands, smart watches, body scanning and 3D printing. We spotted a few pairs of Google Glass on show too!
