The company
Crop2Cash helps farmers adapt to drought with climate-smart farming content and the management of financial risks. It connects farmers to high-yield, drought-resistant maize seeds through a digital marketplace via USSD.
Problem
Frequent drought and high temperatures from climate change have negative impacts on maize production in Nigeria. Farmers in northern Nigeria struggle to access finance to scale and transform their operations to build resilience.
GSMA project
In November 2022, Crop2Cash received a GSMA grant to connect farmers with high-yield, drought-resistant seeds via USSD, to access finance and to provide tailored SMS weather advice on best agricultural practices. The grant also enabled Crop2Cash to develop an AI-powered IVR service offering personalised agricultural advisory in local languages
Outcomes
Crop2Cash has secured funding in the form of equity and convertible notes from investors such as Village Capital and Marula Square.
Traction
As of March 2025, more than 80,000 farmers use the USSD solution to access agricultural inputs, access finance and receive advisory support.
