Mobile Innovation Hub: Energy Action for Sustainable Transformation (EAST)

About the programme

The GSMA Mobile Innovation Hub (MIH), in collaboration with Instellar Indonesia and the Digital Transformation Center Indonesia has launched the Mobile Innovation Hub: Energy Action for Sustainable Transformation (MIH EAST), a three-month incubation programme. This programme is aimed at early-stage start-ups focusing on clean energy or energy-enabled digital solutions. Selected start-ups on this programme will receive support, ranging from strategic workshops, mentoring, individual consultations with various practitioners, impact advisory teams and pitching clinics, culminating in a demo day in Bali. The top three start-ups will also get an opportunity to connect directly with the investors through a ‘hot seat’ pitch.

Thank you to everyone who submitted an application for the programme. Applications are now closed and we are no longer accepting new submissions. The selected start-ups have now been announced.

Introducing the selected start-ups

Azura Indonesia | Bali | reinvents the way to conserve marine biodiversity and reduce emission from motorized boat. Their Manta One solution enables traditional fisherman to easily convert their vessel into electric boat.

Interestech | Jakarta | recognises limited reliable power and low productivity of coastal community as an opportunity to develop e-KanaXin. Their solution takes advantage of renewable and technology 4.0 to realise weatherproof and more reliable fish drying process.

Kuantek | East Nusa Tenggara | enables better livelihood for coastal, small, and remote community. Their main products (atmospheric water generator and sea water desalinator) rely on solar power to provide clean water in several villages in eastern  Indonesia.

Catalyzon | West Java | accelerates transition toward sustainable energy and bio-economy with a digital platform that combines waste collection service, product distribution and crowd-investment. They also facilitate conversion of biomass waste into alternative power and high-value materials.

Water Coin | Yogyakarta | focuses on solving the problems of drinking water availability. Their solution combines the use of water treatment technology, digital and renewable power to filter water from various sources into safe and potable water.

GAWIREA | Papua | empowers Papuan women and aims to utilise digital and renewable to enhance income and food security. Their solution ‘sago house’ enables villages to become economically and energetically independent.

Crustea | East Java | develops eco-friendly aerator for aquaculture business. They integrate solar PV, smart IoT, as well as mobile-enabled pond monitoring and controlling system for shrimp pond.

Biojel | East Nusa Tenggara | turns agricultural and domestic waste into alternative energy sources. They aspire to support green energy transition in eastern Indonesia by turning local organic waste into biogas and biofuel.

Rubboto | Central Java | plans to provide solution that provides hardware as a service (HaaS) and software as a service (SaaS) model for rubber plantation. Their IoT solution addresses traditional manual and unproductive harvesting practices.

CELLS | South Sulawesi | engages in the supply of alternative energy products especially biomass. Processing excess supply of coconut shell and rice husk, CELLS is planning to decrease the use of coal by providing co-firing service.

Congratulations to Azura IndonesiaCrustea Indonesia, and Rubboto for being the top 3 best performing start-ups in the programme.

A free website from MakeWebEasy, a fee waiver from Xendit worth USD 10,000, and a Hot Seat Pitch with the investors from Insignia Ventures, Impactura, Indonesia Impact Alliance, and Bali Investment Club were among the benefits awarded to the programme’s top 3 best-performing start-ups.
