Mobile identity and data APIs

The next generation of mobile authentication, fraud detection and prevention

Mobile network operators (MNOs) are increasingly providing identity and data services to businesses. These services support fraud prevention, risk management and identity verification for digital services across industry verticals.

One of the most widely available APIs safeguards businesses against SIM swap fraud. It is generally called the “account takeover protection” or “SIM swap” API. It allows financial institutions and other businesses to protect themselves against a common account takeover attack, in which the fraudster takes control of the account owner’s SIM card using social engineering techniques and stolen personal data. A fraudulent SIM swap threatens the validity of subsequent mobile number-based security verifications. The SIM swap signal available through mobile operator APIs enables businesses to detect such fraudulent events and to respond accordingly.

“Number Verify” is also rapidly becoming available over the world. Number Verify offers seamless verification of a user’s mobile number by providing the next generation of strong authentication and user experience. It now provides a simple evolution path for any business that uses mobile numbers and SMS One-Time-Passwords.

Mobile operator data applications vary hugely across geographies and verticals. Many other products are being developed to address the demands of local businesses, such as credit risk scoring and fraud protection.
